Jazz

Jazz dance is generally known for its high energy level, stylised movements and isolations. Classes consist of warm up, stretch, technique across the room (kicks, turns, leaps etc) and the learning of a dance to be performed at the end of year concert.

Tap

Tap dance is a style of dance defined by the use of tap shoes to make sounds by striking them on the floor in percussive rhythm. Classes consist of a warm up, technique in the centre or across the room and the learning of a dance to be performed at the end of year concert. 

Classical Ballet

Classical ballet is known for its aesthetics and rigorous technique, through flowing, precise movements and ethereal qualities. Classes will consist of barre work to improve strength, flexibility and turn out, centre work and the learning of a dance to be performed at the end of year concert.

Pointe

Pointe classes are for advanced students wanting to to further their ballet training by learning pointe work in pointe shoes. These classes are very technical and are recommended for dedicated, hardworking dancers wishing to push themselves to a more advanced level.

 

 

Hip Hop

Hip hop is a broad term used to describe street dance, generally performed to hip hop style music, hip hop is performed with a low centre of gravity, isolations and elements from poppin', locking and breaking. Classes consist of warm up, technique and the learning of a dance to be performed at the end of year concert.

Musical Theatre

Musical theatre classes combine elements from all dance styles and theatrical performance techniques to create a high energy class. Classes learn songs and dances to songs from musicals from around the world and perform a piece they have been working on at the end of year concert.

Contemporary/Lyrical

Contemporary/Lyrical dance takes elements from jazz and ballet technique and is generally performed at a faster pace than ballet but not as fast as jazz. This style also takes elements from pilates and yoga to unify the mind and the body. Classes will consist of a warm up, stretch, technique and the learning of a dance that will be performed at the end of year concert.

Commercial Jazz

Commercial jazz is a very modern stylised form of jazz dance mixing fluid and sharp movements similar to those seen in music videos. Classes consist of warm up, stretch, technique across the room (kicks, turns, leaps etc) and at the learning of a dance to be performed at the end of year concert.

Acrobatics

Acrobatic class is an advanced class for dedicated, hard working dancers wanting to learn flexibility, stength, balance, lifting and tumbling skills.

Level 1 - is for total beginners who have never done any kind of acrobatics or gymnastics in the last 12 months

Level 2 - all students wanting to be in the level 2 classes need to meet the following requirements; be confident in both right and left handed cartwheels, be able to do a one handed cartwheel (either on one side or both right and left) and be able to do a back bend from standing. These are skills that will be checked by Miss Annie and Miss Sarah before students will be allowed to join the level two class.

Strength and Conditioning 

Strength and conditioning classes can be taken all term or student can come casually, this class is purely an extra class for dedicated students wanting to get more out of their dance training or anyone just wanting a really good workout. Classes will consist of a warm up and strength exercises tailored to help with balance, co-ordination and body awareness needed after dancing. Classes will be run by a qualified personal trainer.
